Food from the Harte was founded in 2023 to respond to the pressing issue of food insecurity, particularly among Veterans, their families, and the unhoused. Over the past 20 years, the founder has dedicated her life to volunteering and providing services to communities in need. Her experience spans the globe, having volunteered for organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. The personal experiences of the founder, a Veteran of the Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) wars, add a poignant dimension to the mission of Food from the Harte. Recalling the financial struggles upon returning home from Iraq and the reluctance to seek help due to pride, the founder understands the unique challenges faced by Veterans. Unfortunately, many Veterans who face financial hardships find it difficult to ask for assistance.

Food from the Harte members collaborate with organizations such as Black Mama’s Village ATX, Friends Who Care (Guyana), and Continental African American Military and Family Association (CAAMFA) to provide essential services to those in need.
Food from the Harte collaborates with other Veterans and individuals who share a deep passion for supporting Veterans and the unhoused community. The organization evolved from a one-person operation to a team of dedicated volunteers from surrounding communities. Together, we strive to make a meaningful impact by nourishing and supporting those in need.
